A Curse For True Love By Stephanie Garber Book Review

A Curse For True Love by Stephanie Garber book review

A Curse For True Love is the last book in the Once Upon A Broken Heart trilogy by Stephanie Garber. Will Evangeline and Jacks finally get it together? Will he kill her with a kiss? These are some things I was looking forward to being answered.

In this installment, Evangeline gets to live the fairytale love story that she’s always dreamed of. But she is starting to realise that these stories might not be what she truly wants. The villains are the heroes and the heroes are the villains. Everything is still magical, but a happily ever after might look a little different from what Evangeline originally dreamed of.

The Plot

Evangeline Fox ventured to the Magnificent North in search of her happy ending, and it seems as if she has it. She’s married to a handsome prince and lives in a legendary castle. But Evangeline has no idea of the devastating price she’s paid for this fairytale. She doesn’t know what she has lost, and her husband is determined to make sure she never finds out . . . but first he must kill Jacks, the Prince of Hearts.

The Review

This is the first book in the series to have multiple points of view and I think it suffered a bit from this. Garber’s stories are usually packed with many different plot points, so adding in the different points of view from Apollo and Jacks kind of just confused things for me. However, she did win me back by keeping these short so that you weren’t unnecessarily dragged away from the main story for too long.

I do also concede that the story did benefit from understanding Apollo and his actions better. He was a character with many shades of grey.

The beginning was a bit slow, primarily because you follow Evangeline trying to remember, and relearning everything we already know as the reader. Going over ground you’ve already covered can be a bit tedious, although Garber was careful not to do this too much. As soon as Jacks reappears is when the energy and excitement returned for me.

I continued to enjoy the report between Jacks and Evangeline. Jacks is a great character. You end up wanting the villain to win. He even devolves back to his villainous ways at one point, and I was still as willing to forgive him as Evangeline was.

A Curse For True Love is the last book in the fairytale saga by Stephanie Garber. It’s got a lot of what makes the other two books great and answers many of our questions. Except for the apples, I’m still not sure why he ate the apples!
