The Ballad Of Never After By Stephanie Garber

The Ballard Of Never After by Stephanie Garber Book Review

If Indiana Jones met a Russian Fairytale this is what it would look like. Fantastical tales told at a break-neck pace and an action-packed plot with hardly a chance for you to take a breath. And of course lots of wonderfully sizzling romance.

I loved this book. It was so fun and weird and wonderful. So many things happen and sometimes you’re left going ‘wait, what just happened’ or ‘where on earth did he come from’ or ‘how is this important to the plot’, but it’s still so great. There’s never a dull moment, and I just wanted to keep reading.

The Plot

After Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, betrays her, Evangeline Fox swears she’ll never trust him again. Now that she’s discovered her own magic, Evangeline believes she can use it to restore the chance at happily ever after that Jacks stole away. But when a new terrifying curse is revealed, Evangeline finds herself entering into a tenuous partnership with the Prince of Hearts again. Only this time, the rules have changed. Jacks isn’t the only force Evangeline needs to be wary of. In fact, he might be the only one she can trust, despite her desire to despise him.

The Review

Evangeline is so unlucky in this book, but she’s still clinging to her hope and belief in people, so it’s never depressing. She’s changing as well and beginning to question what she thinks is a happily ever after.

The main attraction is the sexual tension between Evangeline and Jacks. He’s still terrible to her and she still doesn’t trust him, but they’re also starting to work together and they’re really starting to want each other. And we even get some sweet moments.

Jacks is an epic anti-hero. He’s definitely starting to fall for the impossibly positive Evangeline even though he knows he’s bad for her. He’s always there to save her now, even though he thinks he’s using her. The mystery surrounding him grows and so does the history of heartbreak.

The mysteries keep unfolding in this book and with each new bit of information, more questions are raised instead of answered.

There’s so much going on in this book, but it’s what I enjoyed about it. There’s never a dull moment and the action and romance is so good.
