Bringing Down The Duke Book Review

A League Of Extraordinary Women

Evie Dunmore

This series is an excellent historical romance series set in Regency England. The characters are strong, the females are fighting for their rights, and the gentlemen are exceedingly pleasing to the eye. The romance is sweet, the sex is hot, and the drama is executed excellently.

Bringing Down The Duke #1

England, 1879. Annabelle Archer, the brilliant but destitute daughter of a country vicar, has earned herself a place among the first cohort of female students at the renowned University of Oxford. In return for her scholarship, she must support the rising women’s suffrage movement. Her charge: recruit men of influence to champion their cause. Her target: Sebastian Devereux, the cold and calculating Duke of Montgomery who steers Britain’s politics at the Queen’s command. Her challenge: not to give in to the powerful attraction she can’t deny for the man who opposes everything she stands for.

Sebastian is appalled to find a suffragist squad has infiltrated his ducal home, but the real threat is his impossible feelings for green-eyed beauty Annabelle. He is looking for a wife of equal standing to secure the legacy he has worked so hard to rebuild, not an outspoken commoner who could never be his duchess. But he wouldn’t be the greatest strategist of the Kingdom if he couldn’t claim this alluring bluestocking without the promise of a ring… or could he?

Locked in a battle with rising passion and a will matching her own, Annabelle will learn just what it takes to topple a duke….

The perfect historical romances to read while you wait for Bridgerton

Lisa Kleypas

The Wallflowers series are wonderfully easy to read. These books are the perfect antidote to waiting for Bridgerton season 3. There are sweet and intelligent heroines that seem destined to be wallflowers forever and scandelously ravishing heros.

Secrets Of A Summer Night #1

Four young ladies at the side of the ballroom make a pact to help each other find husbands . . . no matter what it takes.

Proud and beautiful Annabelle Peyton could have her pick of suitors—if only she had a dowry. Unfortunately her most persistent admirer is the brash Simon Hunt, a handsome and ambitious entrepreneur who wants her as his mistress.

Annabelle is determined to resist Simon’s wicked propositions, but she can’t deny her attraction to the boldly seductive rogue, any more than he can resist the challenge she presents. As they try to outmaneuver each other, they find themselves surrendering to a love more powerful than they could have ever imagined. But fate may have other plans—and it will take all of Annabelle’s courage to face a peril that could destroy everything she holds dear.

A Touch Wicked is perfect to read if you're missing Bridgerton

Private Arrangements

Katrina Kendrick

Private Arrangments is a series full of scandalous heroines, and secret liaisons. The banter is witty and wicked and the sex is red hot. Intrigue and action keep the plots galloping along.

A Touch Wicked

The Masquerade has only two rules: Depart by morning and never reveal your identity.

When a clue leads her to a scandalous masque, she finds herself in the arms of her handsome employer—and torn between duty and lethal attraction. Outlander is the perfect historical romance to read while you wait for Bridgerton

Diana Gabaldon

Outlander is a must-read and must-watch if you love Bridgerton. It doesn’t always have the level of glamour and glitz as Bridgerton, but it makes up for it with a gripping plot and amazing leads. You can read it while you wait for Bridgerton, or better yet, watch it, as this is another excellent book to screen adaption.

Outlander #1

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

If you can't wait for Bridgerton season 3 to come out then start reading the series that started it all.

Julia Quinn

Of course. What better way to pass the time while you wait for Bridgerton season 3 to come out on Netflix, than to re-read the series that started this fan-favourite TV show. You don’t even need to ruin the story for yourself if you’re holding out before you read the latest release. These books are full of scandal, drama, love, and historical glamour.

The Duke And I #1

In the ballrooms and drawing rooms of Regency London, rules abound. From their earliest days, children of aristocrats learn how to address an earl and curtsey before a prince—while other dictates of the ton are unspoken yet universally understood. A proper duke should be imperious and aloof. A young, marriageable lady should be amiable… but not too amiable.

Daphne Bridgerton has always failed at the latter. The fourth of eight siblings in her close-knit family, she has formed friendships with the most eligible young men in London. Everyone likes Daphne for her kindness and wit. But no one truly desires her. She is simply too deuced honest for that, too unwilling to play the romantic games that captivate gentlemen.

Amiability is not a characteristic shared by Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings. Recently returned to England from abroad, he intends to shun both marriage and society—just as his callous father shunned Simon throughout his painful childhood. Yet an encounter with his best friend’s sister offers another option. If Daphne agrees to a fake courtship, Simon can deter the mamas who parade their daughters before him. Daphne, meanwhile, will see her prospects and her reputation soar.

The plan works like a charm—at first. But amid the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of London’s elite, there is only one certainty: love ignores every rule…

A Kingdom Of Dreams is perfect to read while you wait for Bridgerton season 3

Westmoreland Saga

Judith McNaught

The Westmorland Saga is like the grandmother of all historical romances. The heroes are morally grey and the heroines are strong and impetuous. This is your bodice ripper romance.

A Kingdom Of Dreams #1

Abducted from her convent school, headstrong Scottish beauty Jennifer Merrick does not easily surrender to Royce Westmoreland, Duke of Claymore. Known as “The Wolf”; his very name strikes terror in the hearts of his enemies. But proud Jennifer will have nothing to do with the fierce English warrior who holds her captive, this handsome rogue who taunts her with his blazing arrogance. Boldly she challenges his will… until the night he takes her in his powerful embrace, awakening in her an irresistible hunger. And suddenly Jennifer finds herself ensnared in a bewildering web… a seductive, dangerous trap of pride, passion, loyalty, and overwhelming love.

Mine Till Midnight will keep you entertained while you wait for Bridgerton to return. The Hathaways

Lisa Kleypas

The Hathaways series follows an eccentric family elevated to the ranks of the aristocracy and their struggles in love and dwindling fortune. Lisa Kleypas is excellent at writing romantic suspense, drama, and sex.

Mine Till Midnight #1

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter . . .

Love By Numbers

Sarah MacLean

Love by Numbers is a 3 book series all about scandalous women. These women don’t care much for society and are willing to take the willing gentlemen down with them.

Nine Rules To Break When Romancing A Rake #1

A lady does not smoke cheroot. She does not ride astride. She does not fence or attend duels. She does not fire a pistol, and she never gambles at a gentlemen’s club.

Lady Calpurnia Hartwell has always followed the rules, rules that have left her unmarried—and more than a little unsatisfied. And so she’s vowed to break the rules and live the life of pleasure she’s been missing.

But to dance every dance, to steal a midnight kiss—to do those things, Callie will need a willing partner. Someone who knows everything about rule-breaking. Someone like Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston—charming and devastatingly handsome, his wicked reputation matched only by his sinful smile.

If she’s not careful, she’ll break the most important rule of all—the one that says that pleasure-seekers should never fall hopelessly, desperately in love.
